Have a Nice Day “Happy” Crowd

Posted by Peter Grandich at 10:11 AM on Friday, February 27th, 2009

I would love to see the “Talking Heads” on TOUT-Tv today but I’ll be out of the office for most of the day. The news is horrible and it’s set to get even worse

Despite some of the most oversold readings in years, and the fact that the DJIA went right through a 15 year uptrend line around 7200 faster than Grant went through Richmond, has set up the possibility of a big meltdown day. Whether or not we have one, we remain on the sidelines. The shame for me today is with all the bull meat that should be slaughtered today, I can’t eat any as a Catholic on Friday’s during Lent. But I plan on having some for breakfast tomorrow. I wonder what Booyah taste like in the morning?

Don’t believe all I say about TOUT-TV? Read and watch video

I read over 100 comments about the CNBC coverage of Ron Paul and am convinced that some sort of revolution is about to take place by the average U S citizen. It would be best if it were nonviolent, but those elected officials we put in , many are not qualified to understand the message being sent to them. It seems Obama is serious in his intent to revive the economy, but has no clue that that era ended. Instead we have the likes of Nancy Pelosi, who reacts like a love sick teen when she is near BHO (and wearing a Depends diaper to absorb the wetting) and acting as a “jumping jack” acting on every word espoused by Obama ! Why aren’t we able to elect people who have talent and understanding of the issues and remedies like Ron Paul, steve forbes, M,Armstrong and maybe R.Sentelli , Schiff, and others who understand the nature of the beast. I won’t get into Joe Biden, who is an accident about to happen ! WHERE DO WE ALWAYS GO WRONG ?

Does anybody know about the Canadian Central Gold Trust GTU.UN. It is a pure gold play but not sure if it holds actual gold bullion to back its units like CEF.A?

#3 Interesting & quite amusing Challie. Why is it that the truth is usually funny? I’ll be copying that and sending it around places, if you don’t mind.

There was some raucous posting yesterday, and I came back to revisit comments and saw that a number of posts were deleted. Could it be that the ‘Thought Police’ have arrived here to censor comments? One of my posts included a ‘You Tube’ of former Independent Presidential Candidate, Alan Keyes, vehemently stating – That Obama must be stopped.

For the benefit of the thought police, who may visit this blog, — what Alan Keyes neglected to add is that we must use every constitutional means at our disposal through a free and fair elective process to stop Obama.

I just watched an entertaining movie from the past named ” Pancho Villa”, with Wallace Berry. In that movie Villa took over mexico and was now the president. His cabinet asked for money to run the gov’t so Villa had 100M printed, his cabinet refused the printed money as did the printers of the money as payment for printing. My question is what is the difference between Villa’s printing of money and that printed by the U S treasury now offered to remedy the economy.? I would guess this might be the strongest argument against the bailouts and to start the various markets ,over again and the best argument as to why the dollar will fall.

    Peter,

You’re born again; remember your namesake in Acts 11. Eat hearty, Scripture does not speak against it, only a group of men from Rome – and that only for the last few centuries.

    Regards,
    Roger.

    SGGroup,

I think Alan Keyes is offensive. He is spreading falsehoods, lies and inciting hatred.

We may disagree with Obama but we need to face the facts. He is democratically elected. He still have the support of majority of Americans in polls. We can point out mistakes, provide constructive criticism and put forth viable alternatives. To incite hatred, spread fear and falsehoods are not the way to go.

Obama is NOT a muslim. During the election campaign, his middle name was highlighted and phrase like “palling with terrorists” were used. It was a shame that the opposition were using these low class means to win an election.

As to Obama’s birthcert authenticity, the courts had dismissed it a few times. There were detail investigations. It is one of those false rumors like some urban legends spreading that Coke will melt your teeth and Canola oil is very harmful. Read all the research on the Internet and form an objective view.

Obama is a socialist – so is our neighbor up North whom many of you admired now. Obama has genuine compassion for the people. He is making the very rich unhappy by taxing them. To me, you are blessed to bless others. So what’s wrong with paying higher taxes if you are very blessed. Socialistic democracy is not all bad. It caters to the underprivileged and poor especially in these difficult times.

What I am really concerned is the hatred that has spread around him that he may end up like Kennedy. There are increased of plots to assassinate him not just from extreme groups like the ku klux khan but more mainstream people from the very rich and some top military brass. Read the Washington posts and you get some ideas.

Although I may disagree with some of his policies, I see a man with a true heart for America, an inspiring leader, a person who can pull the team together, a value for diversity, a calm problem solver and good intelligence. Do we really want McCain and Palin to be on the team now? This is not the best alternative but he is democratically elected by the majority of the people. We can criticize but be constructive and provide real alternatives. So far, I have not heard any real alternatives that could get us out of this mess.

Also, the danger of the recession sinking so deep that we will not be able to get out is real. Bernanke is a scholar of the great depression and he certainly understands that. We should strive to work together and understand their their point of views. In addition, I think the strategic goals of improving education and health care are right on although we may not agree on the details how it is going to be done. Lets give it time and more debate as he had said in his address to the joint congress.

As to the deficit, Obama has pointed he has started to examine spending cuts and there are $2T possible reduction on the way. We may not agree with the figures but let him do the job as our leader. Nothing is perfect. In a situation like this, we may have to agree to disagree to move forward.

Eventually execution is the key. From the way he ran the pre-election campaign, I believe this is a man who can execute eventually. It is no easy task so criticizing violently by the side is not constructive. These back benchers are the one who are hindering the progress of this nation.

    gsh,

Thank you. You summed up a good number of my thoughts better than I would have.

    Peace

  8. gsh says:

    Canadian Friend,

Thanks. I am a believer that America are real strengths which are still the admiration of the world – the technology, unmatched top end university research, leadership in many industries, “can do” attitude, the diversity of thoughts, freedom of speech, willingness to embrace change and a true democracy.

We need to maintain the HOPE. No point turning overly negative and despondent. We will get out of this mess but it will take time.

I sense that current discussion in this forum is like a new CEO taking over a company who is in serious trouble. He is properly appointed with due diligence by the populace. After he is in, there are still so many dissenting views to get him out. This is definitely not constructive and it is harmful!

I was the CEO of such a company before. At that time, my job was easier. I had no choice but to fire those that were causing trouble and the company went on to increase its sales 4X after 3 years.

  9. Roger says:

    gsh,

While I agree with many of your comments I do take issue with your comment about taxing the rich.

Being taxed by a government that is full of corruption and having that money distributed to many who are undeserving – often to buy political power – is not the same as blessing others.

Further, while many who are rich are indeed blessed, sometimes people are rich because they work harder than the next person. Are we to discourage that by taxation?

I know a great number of people who have stopped working hard, stopped exercising the gifts they were blessed with because they are tired of having the government take away the fruits of their hard work. At times I have been one of those people.

We are seeing again now, a la Rick Santelli, that it’s not just a small number of whackos who oppose the government taking money from the hard working and using it to bail out the fools. Unfortunately, that’s what often happens with tax dollars.

Give Americans an incentive to work and they will.

    Regards,
    Roger.

    gsh,

As another Canadian observer of US politics and economics I sincerely hope that there are many more Americans that think like you than those that let their emotions get the better of themselves. Obama has stepped into a terrible situation in almost every aspect of American life and, like you, I think he has a sincere wish to make changes that will ultimately be for the betterment of the country and the world.

Challie asked what the difference is between Pancho Villa printing money and the US doing the same. I think it would be fair to say that the US commands considerably more respect in the global marketplace than Pancho commanded in his own village. However, this flood of dollars is surely going to lead to a bad situation down the road. The Roman Empire collapsed under the weight of declining moral values, a bankrupt economy and an over-extended military. Sound familiar? Let’s hope it isn’t too late to turn things around.

  11. challie says:

#10 The basic premis is just print ing money to cover cost of gov’t , especially gov’ts in trouble. Where is the respect of the U S in this debckle ? I think you treaded too lightly on the basics. If you do not accept that we are at the end of an era then hopeful intent to turn things around is not attainable , feasible,or desireable. We appear to be on the verge of a new way, possibly a new begining. I believe Obama is serious but there is nothing he can do about it short of a brilliant , inspired maybe even divine plan. The plan I favor is to throw out all the dead wood and business as usual ,pols and start over, including new political parties. I’m tired of being FRANKED, DODDED , COXED you name it they gotta go. This whole matter could be the begining of revolt and revolution, Poncho Villa style.

  12. SGGroup says:

With respect to the Candian posters, they assume that the U.S. government is working responsibly based upon the knowledge of their own government. The original Constitution of the U.S. and its intentions have been violated in ways perhaps never anticipated by the founders.

The U.S. Treasury doors have been thrown wide open reminiscent of the sacking of Rome by the vandals. They’re running out with bags of money in every direction. We’re headed for a 65% tax rate on the so called rich earning $250,000. Why isn’t there a seperate tax for the super-rich earning millions & millions of dollars or more? Why should a middle class slob be taxed at the same or lesser rate than a Warren Buffet or Bill Gates? Isn’t it apparent now that government serves the Super Rich and that they are the power behind the throne?

This will come down to the low income bleeding hearts to tax them too. Even if they escape it temporarily, it will come back as the great equalizer of ‘Hyperinflation’ to take everything from them. They will suffer the most. That phase will mark the death throes of this evil government. A tyrrany was born from Amendments to the Constitution which has been distorted to destroy the productive class of America with unprecedented economic mismanagement for decades.

Just look at that sick ‘Presidential Address To Congress’ with House Leader Nancy Pelosi jumping up and down like a ‘Love Sick Teen’ upon every word of Obama. She must have had a Depends Diaper on to absorb the wetting as Obama talked about taking Trillions from future generations for trinkets and novelties. Did it remind you of the ‘Politboro’ jumping to their feet with applause for their Komrades on cue? Truly propaganda well rehearsed and filled with outright lies and exaggerations.

Such a sorry spectacle to hear that Secretary of State Clinton was in China to beg their cooperaton to buy U.S. Bonds.
Just by that action it should tell you that the end is near. By every measure this is a mature government and we can only hope that it will pass peacefully, joining countless other governments fallen to the wayside after economic malfeasance. I pray to God that we will be peacefully free from this tyrannical and evil government much sooner rather than later and that the nation is salvageable.

  13. Bill K says:

#11 The US economy is still the 800 pound gorilla in the world even if the end of an era is approaching. I agree with you there but the end could still be quite some ways off. I’m not that great a history buff to remember how long the decline and fall of the Roman empire took, but it was more like a 100 years than 1 or 10 or 20. Kind of like picking the top or bottom of a stock market cycle, you have to be well past it to be able to recognize it. As for your plan of throwing out the baby with the bath water and starting over – be careful what you wish for. As bad as things look I for one would rather maintain the status quo than risk turning what we have into Afghanistan’s economy and quality of life.

  14. Bob says:

One very large thing all of you Obama supporters must understand and not underestimate is that he is an Illinois politician. The very word steeps in corruption. The Illinois political process is about control. Do your homework on these Illinois clowns before you draw any conclusions. He is a byproduct of them. His cabinet is steeped in tax cheats and globalists. See for your self. Illinois is a bankrupt state, but I guess he had no part in the matter. Dont put your trust in a politician to solve this mess. The answers will come from above.

  15. Sg Group – I didn’t remove any posts. The only other party who could have was Agoracom, which under my agreement they have a right to. Please email me what was remove so I can discuss it with them. peter@grandich.com

Gsh – You’ve been very supportive of the present administration and I welcome that. Both sides of issues should be heard. I’ve seen that Youtube interview of Keyes and while his tone was harsh, I agreed with his underlying premise. I fully appreciate someone feeling people deserve a chance to prove themselves. However, like many others, I’m extremely concern about what Obama has done in just a month. Honest debate is what we need and I hope you, me and others can do that here in the future.

  16. challie says:

#13 “there in is the rub”, the status quo is what caused this lack of diligence by the pols. In any event, knowing the end of an era does not require a polar view of the situation, especially now. Standing in the midst of this economic debris needs no further proof of the end of an era (in the U S). Canada has been less scarred by this meltdown but just standing near the U S will feel some of the heat.

#14 Of course Obama helped to bankrupt Illinois, as state senator he sat on his hands and paid no attention to the prblems of that state. He was just one more lazy-arsed pol who voted “present” when leadership was called for. My guess is that the existing problems will wear him down with all his advisers succumbing to a lethargic mental state. Unfortunately, this situation is ripe for the likes of despots and anti-christs.

  17. gsh says:

    Peter,

I agree with most your views. Who can deny that we are in serious trouble? But what I am trying to do is to ensure there is proper debate.

First lets recognize the problems are not caused by Obama. I am a Christian and a conservative. After seeing Bush and Palin, I prefer someone who can really lead the nation.

Much of the discussion here is on the risk of degenerating into a character attacking anti Obama campaign elsewhere. I was disappointed also by the extent Christian rightist accused Obama of many things which are not true. There are still lawsuit on the authenticity of his birth certificate which is quite silly. James Dobson, a person I respected was also not very charitable in his anti-Obama’s campaign. Just because he is from Illinois, he is corrupted. People are giving ridiculous claims that he is a Muslim. Because he wins the people heart, he could be the anti-Christ. These are not constructive discussion. There is too much passion and little substance. That’s politics – many times just like some theological debates.

I’m all for conversation and discussion about politics, just as I’m all for conversation and discussion about theology. However, I’ve seen theological and political discussion become too dirty and un-Christian. I’ve tried to make sure that the theological discussions here don’t go overboard. But I know how often it can. People talking past one another. People just trying to show that they are right and everyone else is wrong. People starting to attack the character of others.

To be sure, I think discussing political and theological issues are important. But there are some rules I think we should all abide by when we have such sensitive discussions. In the first place, don’t start to attack people’s characters who differ from you. Don’t denigrate their intelligence because they differ from you. And do so in a level-headed way and without inciting fear and hatred against those you disagree with. We need to believe we are part of the team to resolve the problem. I believe some of you may want to quit and leave if you have the opportunity.

While I’m very interested in politics, I don’t see the need for it to be divisive simply because there are much more important things than politics in this world. The church is not called to take over the world or any government. We’ve already seen how that worked out in history and I don’t think we want to go back to that. But of course, there are Christians who think that God is on one side of the political divide in America. It’s only recently that more and more younger Christians are recognizing that God is not a Republican. That doesn’t mean He’s a Democrat, either. I think He’d rather us channel our passion into preaching the gospel and loving others

As I said, Obama is democratically elected we need to support him. It is Biblical. He has the heart for the people of this nation. In times like this, a little socialism may be good. I agree that we have not found the way out of the deficit and banking crisis. I agree with David Walker, Peter Schiff and others. I disagree with people like Alan Keyes and Prechter. We need to maintain HOPE. We need to remain constructive and not be the factors that may lead to his assassination or a revolution.
